This is a now page: a snapshot of whatI’m up to at the moment, assembled from this site’s streams every time it rebuilds — so it is current as of 27 October 2026.
Knowledge Commons
I am currently working on upgrading BuddyPress across our networks. This is quite a substantial task because our plugins hook to a specific version of this.
I am also onboarding a set of new institutions who particularly want to use our KC Works repository. This is satisfying work, reaching out to libraries.
Research
In my research professor role, I am currently writing a book for the MIT Press about the dark web.
I am also writing a somewhat more secret (for now) book about contemporary healthcare and its embroilment in AI technologies.
Writing
The most recent long-form pieces:
- An update from day 68 in hospital... (15 October 2026)
- My View on AI and University-Level English Literature (5 October 2026)
- Vaults and locks that fence them from the public eye and use (17 September 2026)
Short Thoughts
The latest short thought:
It looks like I have the early stages of another infection. This always manifests in a similar way: extreme morning pain in my neck, my shoulders, my hands, my knees, my ankles, and my feet. Hard even to move until my pain relief has kicked in. Agony. Burning.
Learning
The most recent entry from Today I Learned:
No matter how good at computers you think you are, or how much hubris you have about your Linux expertise, sometimes you do still need just to turn it off and on again to fix that ridiculous problem.
Listening
Most recently: Bullet (Nick Warren & Nicolás Rada Remix) by Fluke. The band I have played most lately is Fluke. Scrobbled on Last.fm.
For who I am and what I do more permanently, see about, accounts, or my CV (PDF).
