January 2013

Westminster latest council to cut 100% of Arts and Culture budget. Just to ask: when we've paid off the deficit, what will we be living for?

I am also teaching an *awesome* MA class this week on Adorno alongside David Foster Wallace's "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again"

My week will mostly consist of teaching a Caryl Churchill play, finishing writing book & working on @openlibhums discussion infrastructure

Have some wonderful new additions to add to various @openlibhums committees and am also doing well on book, which is going off soonish!

Just for the record, (c) statement on @openlibhums was my mistake; it's now amended to the CC-BY license that I always intended.

I can't be the only person with the urge to shout "Godwin's Law" every time Adorno references Nazism in essays on aesthetics.

Just to clarify: OLH is the PLOHSS project that I proposed. We are not affiliated with PLOS, so the name had to change!

Theological evolutionist preaching on the Enfield train. Man vehemently arguing back. Didn't realise this happened off the internet.

Highlight of the morning: student staying after class to talk about how they'd read this *amazing* book called /Gravity's Rainbow/...

The gittish side of me wishes there was an option, when booking train seat reservations, labelled "not next to anybody else".

Teaching Sam Selvon's The Lonely Londoners, which has some fantastic resonances with British Modernism. Also, my first seminars at Lincoln!

Right. Signing off for the evening; journal article submitted, much PLOHSS stuff done, all is good. Meeting loads of great people.

. @CAPittard I suppose that Araucarian could be used to mean: wilful deviation from Ximenean compliance to enhance a clue's playfulness...

Many thanks all for the already excellent response to my call for participants for a PLOHSS. I'll get back to you over the next few days!

Details of a big project I'm working on are leaking out - full post later - but for now I must fulfill resolution to cook properly.

“I'm very proud that some people think that I'm a danger for the intellectual health of students." -- Michel Foucault

Enjoying writing a lecture for second years on Foucault. You don't have to be mad to study here as it's a historically contingent construct.

Heading off for my first day in new job. Morning has started well: finished a journal article for submission & made website for new project.
