Ah, I'd missed that. Osborne launching legal challenge against EU ruling that bankers can "only" receive bonus of 100% of their salary.

Elsevier is one of the biggest allies of the Open Access movement. They single-handedly do more to illustrate the problems than anyone else.

My vote for most terrifying, but totally crucial, book of the year goes to @amcgettigan's The Great University Gamble. Read. It. Now.

In other news, last teaching of the term is done. Phew! Now to blitz the last research bits before marking starts tomorrow.

Just submitted what I hope/think are the final revisions to an article on which I've been working for a year and a half. Phew.

If it takes 10,000 hrs to master something (as is often claimed) & you spend 3 years on a PhD, every day for 8 hrs, you've only put in 6240.

Those who call it selfish neglect that selfishness/individualism has led to unpaid internships and the erosion of fair pay in all areas.

If I had time I'd write a long blog post on how the HE strike is about fighting so that there might be jobs that pay fairly in the future.
